A bit more detail
What kind of star is Meta AI, and who is it for?
It suits people who open a messenger every day. Meta AI is a free AI assistant built into WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger. You can call up chat, image generation and real-time web search right inside the app.
For people who chat with family, friends and groups all day, or who want to try AI without a separate sign-up, it has the lowest barrier to entry. On the other hand, if you rarely use Meta apps, its advantages shrink a lot.
According to the MoketAI introduction, it is built on a closed model called 'Muse Spark' made by Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL). Meta's AI division also makes the open-weight Llama models, and if you just remember that the two are separate branches, you won't get them confused.
How much can you use for free?
Chat, search and images are within the free range. With just a Meta account, you can use natural Korean and English conversation, real-time web search and image generation across the four messenger apps and the meta.ai website.
What stands out is the 'Imagine' feature. The image is drawn in real time while you type text, and it also supports turning the result into a GIF. It is also described as letting you make short AI videos from text, and remix other users' videos and post them to a dedicated feed.
The disappointing part is that free usage limits, such as how many times a day you can use it, were not given in the sources we checked. The only way is to try it yourself and see whether you hit a limit.
How do you call it up inside a messenger?
Just mention @Meta AI. Type @Meta AI in the search bar or chat box of WhatsApp or Messenger, or tap the Meta AI icon, and it is called up. You can bring it straight into a conversation with a friend, so the flow isn't interrupted.
Outside the messengers, you can use it by visiting the separate site from a desktop browser. Both the app and the web are said to support Korean.
If you own smart glasses, there is one more place to use it. It comes built into the 2nd-generation Ray-Ban Meta, so you can ask by voice about the scene you are looking at through the camera.
How much is the paid subscription, and can you use it in Korea?
The paid plans are still in an overseas pilot stage. On May 27, 2026 (local time), Meta announced a pilot of two paid AI subscriptions. According to Chosun Biz, the target countries were Singapore, Guatemala and Bolivia, and Korea was not included.
There are two prices. Meta One Plus is $7.99/month (about KRW 11,000), and Meta One Premium is $19.99/month (about KRW 30,000). Both let you use image and video generation and reasoning features, and Premium offers more usage.
There are also benchmarks for comparison. According to the same article, ChatGPT Plus, Gemini Advanced and Claude Pro are all $20/month. Per-app subscriptions such as Instagram and Facebook Plus ($3.99/month) and WhatsApp Plus ($2.99/month) were also introduced. Korean pricing was not in the sources we checked, so look at the official screen before paying.
How is it different from ChatGPT, and how do you get started?
The biggest difference is 'where you use it'. ChatGPT is used in a separate app or on the web, while Meta AI is attached to the messengers you already use. Being able to call it straight from a chat without a separate sign-up is what sets it apart.
There are two drawbacks as well. If you rarely use a Meta account or messengers, the benefit of integration disappears, and no official guide on Korean answer quality or the range of features has been published. For sensitive content such as work documents or company secrets, it is safer to think twice before putting it into a messenger chat window.
Start lightly. Open WhatsApp or Messenger with your Meta account and ask, "Write this weekend's family gathering announcement in three short, friendly lines." If you like it, try image generation too, and if the Korean answer feels awkward, compare by asking the same question on the meta.ai website. It's not too late to decide on the paid plan after that.
