What is OpenAI Codex?
Codex is OpenAI's coding agent. It is available as the Codex CLI that runs on your local computer, IDE extensions for code editors (VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf), a desktop app, and Codex Web, a cloud-based agent. Signing in with a ChatGPT account and using it as part of the Plus, Pro, Business, Edu, or Enterprise plans is recommended, and it can also be used with an API key. In the ChatGPT pricing table, Free and Go are listed as limited Codex use, Plus as Codex use, and Pro as expanded limits. (The official Codex introduction page did not open at the time of collection.)
