What is Mixture of Kittens?
Mixture-of-Kittens (MoK) is a fully deterministic MoE (mixture of experts) training megakernel designed from the ground up for NVL72. It fuses all communication and computation of an MoE layer into a single kernel, overlapping GPU-to-GPU communication with computation and eliminating CPU-GPU synchronization. It supports BF16 and MXFP8, handles both forward and backward passes, and is used in the actual training of Cursor's coding model Composer. It states that the MXFP8 forward pass is up to 2.37x faster than the public reference implementation, and that tokens per second increased 1.41x in the real training stack.
