What is LangGraph?
LangGraph is a low-level orchestration framework and runtime for building, managing, and deploying long-running, stateful agents. It lets you mix hand-written deterministic steps and LLM-driven agent steps in a single graph. It focuses on foundational capabilities such as durable execution, streaming, human-in-the-loop, and persistence, and does not abstract away prompts or architecture. It can be used without LangChain, and LangSmith can be connected for tracing, evaluation, and deployment. Python and JS/TS versions are available.
- Mix deterministic steps and agent steps in one graph
- Durable execution (persistence) that resumes after failures
- Human-in-the-loop to inspect and modify agent state at any time
- Short-term working memory plus long-term memory across sessions
- Debugging and tracing with LangSmith
- Deployment for stateful, long-running workflows
- Streaming, subgraphs, and time travel
Who uses LangGraph and for what
- Build custom agent workflows that behave exactly as you need

State-based review agent
ChatGPT (OpenAI) specifies the state transitions of collection, extraction, comparison, and approval. In LangGraph, failure, hold, and re-review paths are kept in the task log. A human approval node is required before automatic publishing.
Cost: Brain: API pay-as-you-go + subscription (ChatGPT) / Tool: open source (free)
State-based review agent
Claude specifies the state transitions of collection, extraction, comparison, and approval. In LangGraph, failure, hold, and re-review paths are left in the job log. A human approval node is required before automatic publishing.
Cost: Brain: freemium (free + paid subscription) + API pay-as-you-go / Tool: open source (free)
