Seorak Beach: 11,424 visitors in 2024 and a free car park 60 m away

Seorak Beach is in Jeonjin 2-ri, Ganghyeon-myeon, Yangyang County, Gangwon Province. According to the Korea Tourism Organization, it is 1 km long and 80 m wide. The water is shallower and quieter than at many other east coast beaches, and the sand is fine, so it is popular with families. Naksan Beach is a short hop away on the other side of a hill, and you can see Naksansa Temple and the Haesu Gwaneum statue from the sand. City buses run often from Sokcho and Yangyang, and the beach sits on Route 7.

Visitors in 2024: 27% of the 2019 level

Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries figures show 72,938 visitors in 2017, the highest count from 2015 to 2024. The number was 18,409 in 2018 and 41,609 in 2019, then fell to 5,357 in 2020. In 2024 it was 11,424, which is 27% of the 2019 level. By the numbers, this is not a crowded beach.

Parking: a free car park 60 m away with 173 spaces

Korea's national parking registry lists five public car parks within 1.34 km of the beach. All five are recorded as free and open around the clock. The closest, the Seorak Beach car park, is 60 m away and has 173 spaces.

The tourism organization's description mentions a paid car park nearby. Registry data can differ from the situation on site, so follow the signs.

Water and safety

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries tested the seawater 12 times in 2025, and all 12 results were rated suitable. Four toilets are registered near the beach. For an emergency, call 119, or the Korea Coast Guard on 122 if something happens at sea. The nearest coast guard station is Naksan Station (낙산파출소), 1.7 km away.

If you need a doctor

The nearest emergency rooms are Onjae Hospital (온재병원), a regional emergency medical institution 8.5 km away, and Sokcho Medical Center (속초의료원), a regional emergency medical center 10.0 km away. Neither is close, so call 119 first if someone is hurt. Pharmacies are Naksan Pharmacy (낙산약국) at 1.3 km, Uri Pharmacy (우리약국) at 1.5 km and Taepyeongyang Pharmacy (태평양약국) at 3.0 km. All three are registered as open on Sundays.

There are 122 licensed lodgings within 3 km of the beach: 82 residence-type, 23 motels and inns, 10 other lodgings and 7 hotels. Pensions and farm-stay minbak are registered under a different system and are not in these numbers. For camping, Yangyang Hans Auto Camping (양양한스오토캠핑장) is the closest at 0.3 km. Next are the Korail Naksan Training Center campsite at 2.1 km, Dana House at 2.8 km and Yangyang Camp at 5.2 km. All four are registered as general campsites.
