Mulchi Beach: Five Free Car Parks Within 450 m and 49 Places to Stay

Mulchi Beach is a small, simple swimming beach on the sand next to Mulchi Port in Yangyang, Gangwon Province. According to the Korea Tourism Organization, it first opened in 2002. There are hardly any tall buildings around, so you can take photos with the East Sea and Seoraksan Mountain in the background. It sits right beside National Route 7, which makes it easy to reach, and a nearby raw fish market sells fresh wild-caught fish at modest prices. Next to the beach, Mulchi Port has a lighthouse shaped like a pine mushroom, a well-known local specialty of Gangwon. Jinjeonsa Temple and Dunjeon Valley are close by.

How many people visit

Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries figures show 21,381 visitors in 2015, the highest count in the 2015 to 2023 data. The yearly numbers after that were 17,975 in 2016, 6,216 in 2017, 13,249 in 2018 and 18,980 in 2019. They were 14,410 in 2020, 12,363 in 2021, 15,479 in 2022 and 10,276 in 2023. The lowest year was 2017. The 2024 entry has no usable figure, so this guide leaves it out. Compared with the big resort beaches, this is a quiet place, which suits travellers who want a calm stretch of sea.

Parking: five free public car parks within 450 m

Korea's national parking registry lists five car parks within 450 metres of the beach. All five are recorded as free, with opening hours of 00:00 to 23:59, so effectively around the clock. The nearest, Mulchi Public Car Park A, is 60 m away and has 109 spaces.

Water and safety

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries tested the seawater 12 times in 2025, and all 12 results were rated suitable for swimming. Four toilets are registered near the beach. Because this is a simple beach, facilities may be basic, so it is wise to bring what you need.

The nearest emergency rooms are Onjae Hospital (의료법인온세움의료재단온재병원), a regional emergency medical institution 5.6 km away, and Sokcho Medical Center (강원특별자치도속초의료원), a regional emergency medical centre 7.2 km away. Pharmacies are close: Taepyeongyang Pharmacy (태평양약국) is 0.1 km away, Baekse Plaza Pharmacy (백세프라자약국) is 0.3 km away and Ganghyeon Pharmacy (강현약국) is 0.4 km away. Taepyeongyang and Ganghyeon are registered as open on Sundays, while Baekse Plaza is not. In an emergency call 119, and for an accident at sea call the Korea Coast Guard on 122. The nearest coast guard station is Naksan Police Station (낙산파출소), 4.6 km away.
