Janggyeong-ri Beach is on Yeongheung Island in Ongjin County, part of Incheon. According to the Korea Tourism Organization, it is a sand beach mixed with gravel, with a pine forest of trees more than 100 years old behind it. The registered length of sand is 650 m and the width is 50 m. As on other west coast beaches, you can walk out onto the tidal flats to dig for clams and catch octopus, which is why many families visit.

How busy does it get?

Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries figures show 39,750 visitors in 2015, 36,960 in 2016 and 41,889 in 2018. The count was 35,235 in 2019, 36,276 in 2020 and 43,162 in 2022, the highest of the years from 2015 to 2024. It was 33,553 in 2023 and 32,062 in 2024, which is 91% of the 2019 level. The data lists 2017 and 2021 as 0, so those years are left out of this comparison. This is not a beach that draws millions of people, and the numbers have stayed in a similar range year after year.

Parking: four paid car parks within 220 m

Korea's national parking registry lists four public car parks 220 metres from the beach. All four are recorded at 1,000 won for the first 30 minutes and 500 won for each extra 30 minutes, open around the clock. For free parking, the Sports Complex car park is 1.1 km away and has 80 spaces.

Is the water clean?

The seawater was tested 6 times in 2025, and all 6 results were rated suitable for swimming. Four toilets are registered near the beach. If you plan to walk on the tidal flats, check the tide times first.

Because this is an island, hospitals are far away. The nearest emergency rooms are Nazareth International Hospital (나사렛국제병원), a regional emergency centre, at 24.4 km, and Central Hospital (센트럴병원), a regional emergency institution, at 25.4 km. Pharmacies are Yeongheung Uri Pharmacy (영흥우리약국) at 4.3 km, Seom Pharmacy (섬약국) at 8.0 km and Daebu Pharmacy (대부약국) at 12.4 km. Only Seom Pharmacy is recorded as open on Sundays. In an emergency call 119, or 122 for the Korea Coast Guard if something happens at sea. The nearest coast guard station is Yeongheung Station (영흥파출소), 4.7 km away.

Pensions and farm stay guesthouses are registered under a different system, so they are not in these numbers.
