Ingu Beach in Yangyang, Gangwon sits on the south side of Jukdo, an island thick with bamboo. Jukdo Beach lies to the north of the island. According to the Korea Tourism Organization, sand keeps building up here, so the water is shallow, and there is no coastal barbed-wire fence. That has made it a popular spot for beginner surfers. Lodgings and surf shops are close to the beach, and camping on the sand is allowed, so many visitors combine surfing and camping.

How busy does it get?

Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries figures show 10,241 visitors in 2015 and 10,288 in 2016. The count dropped to 5,004 in 2017, the lowest in the 2015 to 2024 data, and was 5,345 in 2018. It peaked at 35,428 in 2019. Numbers then fell to 14,502 in 2020 and 10,195 in 2021, before rising again to 14,722 in 2022, 18,803 in 2023 and 27,174 in 2024. The 2024 figure is 77% of the 2019 level. Compared with Korea's big resort beaches, few people come here, which suits anyone who wants a quieter stretch of sea.
